Microsoft Code

This is kind of a Ben-esque post, but I found it entertaining anyway. As you might have heard, Microsoft’s Windows source code has been leaked. This article at kuro5hin delves into the commenting of the code a bit to get into the minds of the programmers there. Overall they were surprisingly quite restrained – although still a small dose of swearing, making fun of other coders, and “this is such a hack” type comments.

It is an especially funny article for fellow coders – I have run across all these types of comments when inheriting projects. And yes, in my first year or so, I may or may not have set a couple variables here and there to names like “manBitch” and “cheapWhore”. (Notice the camel case.. I still maintained some naming standards).
