Earlier today, R&B, Soul, Jazz, and Country Western legend Ray Charles passed away at the age of 73 after a long battle with liver disease.

Blind since the age of 7, Ray Charles was one of the most enduring (and endearing) voices in popular music. “Georgia on my Mind”, “Shake Your Tailfeathers”, “Hit the Road, Jack”, “Unchain My Heart”, “I Got a Woman”, “I Can’t Stop Loving You”, and an achingly soulful rendition of “America the Beautiful” were just a small, small sample of some of his many memorable hits.

I’ve always thought Ray possesed one of the greatest voices in American music, and the untold hours of enjoyment I’ve gotten from his records remain some of my favorite musical memories.

Brother Ray is at it again

Goodnight, Ray.
