John Peel: 1939-2004John Peel died at the age of 65 today while on holiday in Peru.  For the unfamiliar, John Peel was a DJ with Radio 1 for over 40 years and he singlehandedly changed the world’s taste in music through his selections by bringing the mainstream around to punk, reggae and hip-hop well before anyone else.

In addition to being an enthusiastic music lover, Peel had the ability to bring out some of the greatest performances from the top bands. (This site lists all the Peel Sessions from 1992 to the present. The book ”In Session Tonight“ lists the first 25 years worth and is a great biography of the man’s career)

I was shocked to hear of his death when I read the news this morning.
