Breezy day at the beach

I really can’t decide on the authenticity of this video clip.  I don’t see how a jet engine could have that much power over that distance.  I even saw an episode of Mythbusters where they tried to flip a car at about 20 yards using a jet engine.. and couldn’t.  On the other hand, I’m not sure if it’s possible to make the sand, water, and trees in this vid blow back that realistically.

probably coastal winds…

I think it’s plausible.  The airflow over the road would create a low-pressure region on the beach, which would make the wind rush down the beach a lot faster than usual.  Also, the road is raised a bit above the grassy area, which could make the wind “jump” the road and slam onto the beach, just like a solid fence.

On the other hand, wouldn’t this happen all the time?  In which case, the airport would take measures to prevent it.  It doesn’t look like there was too much damage though, so maybe they don’t care.

that’s right.  Just my major.  I left college early and taught myself programming to get a piece of the never-say-die dot-com tech boom riches of the nineties… you know, the one that fell flat on its ass. smile
