I woke up this morning, turned on the news, and found out it’s that time of year again: Oscars. Have a look at the nominees here. After looking at the list, I discovered that I have not seen many of the movies that spawned the nominations. It looks like I have a lot of movies to see.

Disappointed, though not surprised, that Before Sunset got mostly overlooked (only a Best Adapted Screenplay nomination).  Too bad, this one one of the years best.  You just get the feeling that The Aviator is going to clean house, which is sad.  Aside from great performances from Blanchett and DiCaprio this film had almost nothing going for it, and is probably the weakest of the 5 nominated (but hey, so was Return of the King last year).  I can’t wait to see Million Dollar Baby, (starts in KC on Friday) hopefully it hasn’t been overhyped.  Overall I’d say this was a good year for actors, but not a great year for films.  Nothing that I’ll be rushing to add to my DVD collection.
