The light at the end of the tunnel finally appears

CNN fires Tucker Carlson from Crossfire.  The usual fluff about career aspirations and programing direction was thrown out for reasons, but I found this paragraph telling:

[Jon] Stewart said he believes the program’s format has become emblematic of the decay of the American political system, a diagnosis with which Carlson’s boss appears to agree.

“I guess I come down more firmly in the Jon Stewart camp,” [CNN head Jonathan Klein] said.

Apparently, Stewart’s not the only one who thinks Tucker’s a dick.

of all the people to take a quote from john stewart!? I like him, but maybe they should have dipped from the politically serious barrel.

besides he was not fired… Tucker was not renewed. he get’s a pension, not unemployment.

maybe it’s me, but I doubt this has anything to do w/ something he said on air or w/ his show. being tv I’m betting it’s something along the lines of him sleeping w/ the producers wife or something.

You didn’t read the article, did you?

This article (and a couple of others) state explicitly that CNN was not interested in what Tucker Carlson does and that they are making a concentrated effort to remove any butt-heads format show from their line-up to become more of a pure news channel.

The Stewart quote is there because Stewart’s appearance on Crossfire was a big deal and made a LOT of waves, particularly so because it echoed what a lot of people have been thinking, that confrontational pundit shows are diluting the political discourse and ultimately are a disservice to those who are supposed to benefit from them.  So yea, it makes sense they’d reference it.

the article doesn’t say that…. I believe this is the only real reference the whole time “”His career aspirations and our programming needs just don’t synch up,” Klein told the Associated Press.

“He wants to host his own nighttime show and we don’t see that in the cards here. Out of respect for him and his talent, we thought it would be best to let him explore opportunities elsewhere.”’ other than

tewart said he believes the program’s format has become emblematic of the decay of the American political system, a diagnosis with which Carlson’s boss appears to agree” notice clever use of the word “appears”

pure news channel? hahahahahahaa CNN thrives off this crap.

I did see that crossfire, and john’s version of newshumory is a similar pushy-thing that tucker does. and michael moore, and rush limbaugh, and those PETA assholes. lets round these people up and put them in camps…. maybe then I’d get to punch them all.
