Warner Bros: Lowering the bar

I held off on posting this until I could see some actual footage, but it looks like Warner Bros. has indeed hit itself in the head with a hammer enough times to think that revamping the Looney Tunes characters was a good idea.  In addition to a drastic revamping of their basic look, the characters have new names, new voices, a spaceship, and…uh…..superpowers.  And they fight crime.  In space.

So how long untill Poochie joins the cast?

(Click to watch your childhood memories be destroyed just a little bit more. )

I hate you, Warner Bros.

I actually think this isn’t a bad idea. now I’m not saying it’s good either.

this isn’t the first facelift bugs has had, and at least they changed his name, and everything else identifiable about him other than being a rabbit. they haven’t made an amusing bugs cartoon in forever (including spacejam), let alone one that was innovative and supportive of what we know Bugs as. so for me nearly scraping what they have nearly destoyed already isn’t bad… only time will tell if it’s any good.

personally I think chuck jones would have had a heartattack at way we handle cartoons now anyways.

is this to replace the original cast?  or just be an offshoot version?  I have no problems with them doing a spin-off.  But if they are actually expecting these to be replacements, they must be high.

I took this as a spinoff like the looney toon babies. and when was the last time warner bro’s did anything w/ these guys but commercials?

  • that guy

i loved those guys they were classic but now warner brothers has killed me a little more inside

man you guys sound like a bunch of mom’s on the verge of an empty nest.

don’t get me wrong I think this idea is shit,we have enough crime fighting cartoons, but an updated identity is needed. besides this is vaguely bug’s and company, so I don’t feel completely perversed by this.

american institution? sounds like you need to be in one….

and this is a new idea, sort of. actually it’s sounds like darkwing duck. I’m just happy they are trying to bring life to cartoons again. as long as they are not trying to be whitty and looney, because it’s evident their writers have no talent for that. it could be duck dodgers meets epilepsy and image formerly known as bugs.

I just don’t see what all the bitching is. this is better than them doing nothing at all. this a whole different direction, if it wasn’t they wouldn’t have lost the bug’s name and style of drawing. they have gone out of the way not to tarnish the identity of bug’s. so is it that they cannot use any animal’s templates they’ve already used before?

once again I think this probably will be horrid… just based on what I’ve seen.

my only main point w/ any of this is… not being able to modify or change the direction of characters is admission that you have already done your best work w/ it. I’d like to think that bug’s could be even funnier than dressing in drag, and singing opera even though those are classics. but a modern approach could be nice.

some alternate points… cartoons are some of the most unoriginal for ideas, where they are exceptional is how they revamp those ideas and make them new. it’s like the simpsons episode where they talk about all the characters they’ve ripped off. and after all it’s a cartoon, it should be able to go in any direction your imagination can stretch.

darkwing is based on…. drum roll… batman.

I’ll agree w/ your point of having them all work together. I too would like to see them work seperate… but damnit you have to show kids how to work together anymore. see my basic problem w/ most modern cartoons made for children is they are too realistic. they are so damn scared about showing comical-unrealistic violence they don’t allow people to detach reality from it which makes it more confusing for the youth.

Darkwing Duck is more in line with characters like The Spirit or The Shadow rather than Batman.
