Here’s another car commercial that, instead of perhaps highlighting why you might want to buy this car, decided to just stomp on the memory of yet another one of my favorite films

Thanks, Audi!

Just in case you didn’t know. VW owns Audi hence probably the same marketing idea. They always have commercials that stand out though, thats how VW advertises.

Just to make you feel old…

What movie is the film referencing?

My guess is “The Graduate,” though I’ve never actually seen it.

***is embarrassed that she just accidentally referred to commercial as “film” ****

I think it came out in 1969. I can’t wait until he defiles the memory of “Rain Man” or that oher one where he dresses as a woman.

I will die spiritually if anyone rips-off “Harold and Maud”.

my commercial side found it good, appealing, highly recognazeble (sp?)…

the rest of the 99% of my intellectual capacity (not that is sooo huge), just find funny that once again now the commercial industry proved the fact that is a overcrowded field, where everyday fewer and fewer creative, innovative minds are used, but it get reinforced the mainstream idea that the tv consumer is a great idiot to be fed with banality and just with so obvious references that can’t be missed…

(still there is a smaaaaall portion of advertising that is good, and i don’t mean the category “funny commercials”…)

I agree with you.  There are some truly innovative and talented creative minds working in the field, it’s just that we so rarely get to see that work.

I think commercials like these are just lazy, as rather than do something different or new, they just recycle whatever bits of pop culture they can get the rights to.

Personally, I’m just tired of actors selling their name/voice/face to a product for a quick buck.  Voice-over work is the most prevalent (and least intrusive, probably), and I’m tired of Richard Dreyfuss, Jeff Goldblum, Martin Sheen, and the rest talking up cars.  It’s distracting and just annoying.

Though the Gene Kelly ad is the first one to really get my rage up since the cellular phone commercial that used The Band’s “The Weight”.  Robbie Robertson needs a severe kick to the testicles for letting that happen.  Here’s hoping Levon Helms gets the opportunity to deliver it.

I get pissed off when I hear celebrities doing voice work because they’re taking money from professional voice artists who depend on those jobs.  I can’t wait for voice work to become unfashionable for celebrities again.

I completely agree with you monkey.  Those bastard sell outs!  Actors and web sites that sell out to advertisers should just burn at the stake!!!!

by the way Alpha, have you tried those tasty new Lay’s Stax® brand Potato Crisps from Frito-Lay?  They come in 6 different flavors, including your favorite Salt and Vinegar.  Wow.  Go and find out more about em at

You only like those due to your discovery of the container’s ‘alternative’ usage.

advertising is no more than 90seconds usually. typically 30 adn 15 now. you don’t have shit for time to establish somehting new. that is why using old ideas and icons are great, it’s a shortcut.

why don’t you people bitch about them making the same movie over and over again?

    “We people”?

As a matter of fact, I do bemoan all the horrid remakes, updates, and recycled crap that Hollywood puts out.

  • http://www.livejournal.com/users/shadwstalkr Shadow Stalker

    Well, you people run Hollywood.

  • fealty2dahriyah

but simply nearly everything we read or watch is a ripoff of something else. so do you get to hold the grudge against the ones you don’t approve of??? and if we didn’t like the same shit retold billions of times we wouldn’t pay 8.50 each time it comes out.

and I’m sorry I should have worded that we assholes

Why are you attacking me?  I was just making fun of alpha’s heritage.  I agree with you.
