Worst Places to Commit Armed Robbery

#1.  Spain.

I don’t know if it’s too many movies like Reservoir Dogs, Heat, and their ilk or what, but I have developed a warped, romanticized view of “the bank job”.  I am fully aware this is not a pc-view.. yes, they are greedy.. yes, they terrorize innocent bank patrons and employees.. yes, they even cost taxpayers like me money.  But come on, how big do your cajones have to be to look at an imposing, secured structure like a bank and say to yourself, “That bitch is MINE!”

Conversely, I cut law enforcement a lot of leeway when it comes to going after the bank robbers.  I won’t even go into my general opinion of law enforcement, but in the case of bank jobs, I want the cops to bring everything they got.  The bank job is the pinnacle of “cops v. robbers” in my book – the big leagues – I want to see the elites compete.

So, while most of you will probably find this vid only mildly entertaining, I absolutely loved it.  Bank robber gets pinned, negotiates with a hostage, secures his demands, releases hostage, begins his getaway… grossly underestimates what the cops are willing to do to stop him.  And the cops knew this was being broadcast live to all of Spain!  Just awesome.

thanks to Alastair for the vid

tell me you saw the footage of the LA bank robbery(1997 maybe) where the guys had on head to toe kevlar, multiple assault rifles, and were dumb as bricks. these dudes had every chance available to get away w/ a fuckton of cash, for gawds sake they had bullets ricocheting off them, dead cops everywhere, a hostage. but like most criminals all moxy, no brains.

I’m still living in the 90’s public enemy world of disliking cops.

oh HELL yeah!  That’s one of my all-time favorites.  I don’t think those guys were stupid – I think they seriously had a death wish.

No, they just watched The Pacino/DeNiro film Heat and thought, “hey, we could do that.”

Seriously. That heist occurred just after Heat’s run in the theaters.

Some of the officers were injured, but none were killed.  One of the robbers tripped and accidentally shot himself in the head, the other one shot hismelf after he was cornered and almost out of ammo.  Agreed, they didn’t really think it through.

heat has one of the worst movie endings ever… I believe I actually threw my soda at the screen.

those guys were dumb… you’d of thought after buying thousands of dollars worth of equipment to protect from bullets they might have invested in a get away vehicle, maybe those nice tires that don’t require air, maybe some spinners to police target practice. and why does no one ever fire at the helicopters?

I’m sorry. But he asked for a MOTORCYCLE? I’m surprised he wasn’t shot by a sniper on his way to the bike. Better yet, he drove away at like 50 miles an hour. You’d think he’d have thought it over a little better than that.

Does Spain have a SWAT style group?

I want to know where the bike came from! Did the cops lie to some dealer saying “test drive”? Did they buy it on the spot?

Great way to discourage young “Dog Day Afternoon” types. Having to go cold turkey as a quadrapaligic must bite.
