Next up in this little theme post will be The Domineering Shrew, embodied by this Asian Coke Ad.

(You don’t really need me to tell you to click this, do you?)

The portrayal of women in popular Asian culture is a minefield I think I’ll steer quite clear of today, but this one does illustrate the other popular archetype of woman as violent, controlling, and mercurial.  Beer and truck ads seem to love this theme, for some reason.  And okay, I’ll admit that this girl is stunning as hell, but c’mon.  Getting slapped around like Lionel Ritchie over a beverage?  I’ve known and dated my fair share of bat-shit insano women, but that kind of behavior was always reserved from more excruciatingly difficult problems.

Yah, it’s a fairly negative portrayal, but it’s not like commercials are a beacon of human goodness and grace for men either, ya know.
