Jumping out of perfectly good airplanes

I would love to skydive one day.  However, every so often I see a video that leads me to believe I am slightly insane for even considering it.  This vid really freaked me out – a first-hand account of a guy slamming into the Earth at probably around 40 mph.  Ouch.  (the guy lives.. sorry snuff film aficionados).

anyone ever see the one where the guy had a similar malfunction about 20,000 feet over the desert?

both the guys’ chutes tangled upon release, so he was REALLY MOVING – unlike this guy, he never slowed down much.

somehow – he angled his body to move through the air some and hit the only clump of trees in the entire acreage – he broke his leg and a few ribs hitting the first tree going REALLY FAST, but the tree gave a bit, flipped him over and he fell 14 or so feet onto his back.

he kept the camera on the whole time. knocked the wind out of him, kept him down until an ambulance got there, but he survived a near-free fall for about mile and a half.

    fuck skydiving.

yeah i saw that one.  That is a phenomenal vid – unfortunately i could only find a streaming version.

The thing about skydiving is, it would be painless.  I don’t have a fear of death, just a fear of intense, excruciating pain.  Burning to death, drowning.. all that shit scares me.  Skydiving, planecrashes, bullet to the head, not so much.
