2005 MTV Movie Awards

I have a certain love / hate relationship with the MTV Movie Awards.  I mean I give them tons of praise for giving out awards like Best Villian, Best Fight, and always some very good short films mocking popular Hollywood flicks.  And Chewbacca’s acceptance of a Lifetime Achievement award was, after all, priceless.  Those moments are sadly only half the story.  I know these are all done tongue-cheek, but I’ve grown increasing disatisfied with what was once my MTV generation’s choices on awarding mediocrity.

This year’s show had a nice award presentation for the cast of The Breakfast Club, the MTV equivalent of a Lifetime Achievement Award for Tom Cruise, and a few, mostly forgettable, music performances.  Napoleon Dynamite recieved some well deserved praise as the big winner of the night.  Yet I have to scream bloody murder on any show that awards Lindsey Lohan a Best Actress award.  Either MTV rigs these things to promote “pop stars” like Lohan or our culture is going down the toilet faster than I thought.  Follow the link for full results.

it’s not 12yo’s voting. it’s out of touch executives, dictating what the next wave of entertainment. if they can’t change you, they will warp your kids.
