I’m a fan of More cowbell!
I didn’t know Will Ferrel was still on SNL.
He isn’t. He was guest-hosting.
Absolutely no one in that band looks amused.
it’s because that joke died years ago
How happy would you be if your career was so dead you had to be on SNL?
yeah i don’t know why so many comedians are so anxious to leave SNL for a movie career. SNL’s success rate as a launching pad is abysmal.
That’s only true if you’re counting the ‘I’m Lorne Michaels and I demand you make a movie from this thinly sketched character” years. (Tis true, it’s in their contracts)
Once you take those movies out of the equation, it’s a pretty good average.
are you suggesting they didn’t know he was going to do it?
No, I’m suggesting that they weren’t too happy about it.
Had that been done oh, say 5 years ago, it’d have been mildly funny, but now that’s the epitome of cliche. Cowbell references make Domo-kun look fresh.
SNL has removed all ability for spotaneous stuff from their show, and now everything so calculated and bland. They banned Adrian Brody for introducing a band with an impromptu accent, and are notoriously anti-improv. It’s like the fuddy-duddies took over the clubhouse and kicked out the cool kids.
Dude, you have a Domo-kun sweater. But you’re right, it never smells fresh.
That’s my natural monkey musk.
Yah, I have a Domo-Kun sweatshirt, t-shirt, and two little Domo-Kun plush dolls. That don’t mean I can’t acknowledge that it’s an internet cliche.
I don’t know, man. I wasn’t even counting the SNL spin-off bombs like “Superstar” and “Night at the Roxbury”. Eddie Murphy was the last one that I can think of that really “made” it. Sandler’s had a couple decent ones. “Old School” was funny. Other than that, it’s been pretty much one bomb after another. Maybe I’m missing some.
oops, wrong thread.. oh well..
Mike Meyers did pretty well for awhile. Dana Carvey probably would have also if he hadn’t had that heart thing.
There’s a pretty sizable list, actually. Ferrell’s had THREE leading roles this spring/summer alone, and all in big productions.
(Melinda/Melinda, Kicking & Screaming, Bewitched)
Sandler, Farley, Piscapo (who yes, was very popular for a time), Murphy, Murray, Chase, Curtain, Belushi, Guest, Crystal, Hartman (who never wanted to be a leading man, but had a very respectable career post-SNL), Al Franken, Michael McKean, Gilda Radner…
It’s a good jumping off point, as long as you don’t do those shitty SNL movies.
I don’t know if you can count Al Franken, he was more of a writer than an actor.
He was in quite a few sketches, as was Bob Odenkirk of Mr. Show fame (who was a writer at about the same time as Conan O’Brian).
Ooooh, and as much as I hate to include Mr. Bush Apologist himself, Dennis Miller had a pretty respectable post-SNL career.
Just because they were in a few sketches doesn’t put them in the same category as the other actors you mentioned. While Franken made a movie based on a recurring SNL character (Stuart Saves His Family), it was a flop; his success has come from his books. Of course, it could be argued that his books were popular only because he was well known from SNL.
they are comedians not actors… if it wasn’t on the cusp of humor they couldn’t do it.
people still watch this show??? I would have checked out the QotSA bit. man I would have loved to see them kick his ass for laming them out w/ that washed out joke.
if you check qotsa.com news, they say they guys could hardly play they were laughing so hard??!?
Wow, they hide it well.
they’re professionals. Personally, I have not yet had enough cowbell. I loved it.
Yeah, what kind of an asshole would you have to be to turn down Will Ferrel’s offer to appear on stage, in character with your crappy little band? He may not be funny, but he’s the it guy right now.
crappy little band? I’d say they are one of the few rock bands playing real rock. sorry if it wasn’t depeche mode or whatever your into.
and I doubt they were given the option to turn it down. plus, since that song is so overplayed and heavy cowbell it was a given.
I’ve never heard of them, but you may have noticed that I’m condescending to everyone and everything. Bitch.
Congratulations on finally hitting sore spot with fealty.
Er, I don’t get it! What’s the cowbell thing all about?
(From a land far, far away…)
This might clear that up
Yes indeedy, thanks!
I guess I missed out on the whole SNL thing. TBH, the first I heard of it was when I saw Wayne’s World at the cinema… We’re a bit deprived over here.
I don’t know if I’d say deprived. SNL is seriously hit or miss, quality wise.
