These boots are made for…hey, it’s Willie!

I must admit to being a bit excited about the upcoming Dukes of Hazzard movie.  On one hand, I loathe the current lineup of Hollywood remakes for their sheer stupidity and unoriginality.  On the other hand, Jay Chandrasekhar of Broken Lizard is directing it, and he’s a comedic genius.

What I am absolutely not excited about is the career of Jessica Simpson (who is playing Daisy Duke), both acting and singing wise.  For those of you who might harbor some goodwill toward the Alpha Simpson, I present to you the video for Simpson’s version of “These Boots Are Made for Walking”, which I’ll assume appears in the film.

Nancy Sinatra you are not, Jessica.

Willie looks so ashamed to be in this video.  Great, I’ve made myself sad.

    he’s a comedic genius????

yeah, I nearly died watchin supertroopers… during it’s 4 funny moments.

I was excited about this film till I watched the trailer. now I don’t even care. burt is no boss hog, and I don’t even want to go into the rest of the casting, except willie was probably a perfect choice. the duke boys going to a college campus or a metro area just seems wrong.

Eh, I hold Supertroopers as unadulterated and pure comedic genius.  On top of that Jay Chandrasekhar has directed a goodly number of Arrested Development episodes, and you can always tell when it’s one of his.

Yeah, Supertroopers rocks, but he’s also responsible for the rather ho-hum Club Dred.  Comic genius is going a tad too far.

Club Dread did not live up to Troopers, but the DVD version is a hell of a lot better than the theatrical one.  With Supertroopers they had no studio oversight (financed it themselves and then sold distritbution at Sundance), and Club Dread was a full-on studio picture.

And if you want any indication of what happens when a studio tries to oversee an unsual comedy, just look at bobanddavid.com and read through their experiences with New Line making Run, Ronnie, Run!, a film they have since wholeheartedly disavowed and disowned due to interference.

That was a really, really stupid video.

I especially loved the, “I can climb into your lap and gyrate my crotch into your face but I’m going to get offended when you smack my ass” scene.

Wow, the only two people I’ve ever heard of not liking Super Troopers have been the two in this thread.

Did really no one notice Jessica opens the door of the General Lee??!? She displays some flexibility in the hips in this video, surely she must be able to climb out of the windows the way the Dukes do. Or is that too unladylike? Or (most likely) just plain stupidity?
