R. Kelly: Meat Loaf for the 00’s

My self-imposed exile from popular radio sometimes works to my disadvantage.  After all, how could I go so long not knowing of the comedic genius of R. Kelly’s “Trapped in a Closet”?  Maybe it’s just as well considering that, as funny as the song is in and of itself, the video is a thousand times funnier.

(click on “videos” and then watch “Trapped in the Closet 1-5″)

I can’t decide what’s funnier: that R. Kelly repeatedly threatens to shoot a pastor, that he ‘bleeps’ out the naughty words with his own sound effects, or the notion that somewhere along the creative process there was at least one person who heard the pitch/saw the footage and went “Yes! That’s exactly what I wanted!”

Nice.  Very nice.  In a very sad sort of way.

If he can get someone to publicly release something with words like “toot toot” and “beep beep” as part of a love song, you better believe that there’s someone even nuttier than R.Kelly
