I was pretty happy when I found out that Sony picked up Matisyahu, and it looks like they’re actually giving him the rock star treatment.  Here’s the video for his song, King Without A Crown

Matisyahu rules! This is such an inspirational song. I’m not even a really religious person, but this guy totally sings from the soul. Definitely an awesome way to spread his faith. Beatboxing and playin bongos with a Jamacian dub reggae feel, it was such a suprise to see that it was a white Hasidic rabbi. I was ecpecting to see the next Bob Marley when I first heard him and we joked that it was probably some white dude…..and he is. His website’s worth checkin out. Im pretty sure he used to be a total hippie before he became a rabbi. Good ol’ sinsemilla inspiring musicains, even in the religious comunity. lol

The live version of this song at Stubb’s is way better than this MTV’d out one.

Can anyone send in a muslim-reggae link, pretty please?

  • .alphamonkey.

    Is there such a thing?

  • Jus Kan

That’s what I’m trying to find out.

1 HUGE problem. reggae is based off judeism

  • Chaud

based off judeism? Interesting. Can you prove it?

  • .alphamonkey.

Perhaps a more apt sentence would have been “rastafarianism is an offshoot of judaism”

  • fealty2dahriyah

sorry, I was making the leap from rastafari to reggae.

pbs had a sweet history of reggae you should check out.

If there is such a thing it probably won’t measure up to matisyahu. He’s got a style all to his own. Dont just assume that because he calls his genre reggae that all reggae is like this. He’s a beatboxer that sings with a reggae band, it’s totally original. If there is such a thing as muslim reggae, it’s not gonna sound anything like this, i can almost gaurantee. Enjoy what ya got. I’m not jewish or anything, I just really enjoy Matisyahu’s songs. If your into the religious part, then good luck finding a band that performs anywhere near as good as these guys. Cause good religious rock bands are veeeery far and few between.

wow you repeated yourself but in a whole different way.
