Sophia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette

I don’t know if this trailer reflects the tone of the film, or maybe someone in marketing thought it’d be clever to play Joy Division over a pre-revolutionary film trailer, but after Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation, it’s probably not a stretch to say that Marie Antoinette will be an art house fave.

The song is actually Age of Consent from New Order (of course… made up of the remnants of Joy Division). Aptly chosen, I feel. It’s a good clip.

New Order.  Joy Division. What’s the diff (well, besides a dead Ian Curtis and newer synths….)?

Er… Happier lyrics? Or certainly less depressing melodies on the synths. They helped develop the dance music scene, if that counts for anything. What I’d really like to see is this clip with Joy Division’s “She’s Lost Control”.
