“They are 6ft wide and weigh 450lb (200kg), with countless poisonous tentacles, they have drifted across the void to terrorise the people of Japan. Vast armadas of the slimy horrors have cut off the country’s food supply. As soon as one is killed more appear to take its place.” I know what you’re thinking, but it’s not a newly reformed boy band.  No, these 6ft monsters are jellyfish

Who’s up for sushi?

    Are they edible?

Wait, don’t tell me.  In Japan, anything found in water is edible.

Uh oh.  A giant squid.  A swarm of jellyfish.  Japan found the sphere, didn’t they.

It looks delicious.  Perhaps with some wasabi ice cream as dessert.

    Hehe, I’d forgotten about that.

I hadn’t.  That memory keeps me warm at night.

And what keeps me warm at night is my pending vengeance.  Dirka dirka jihad!

Yea that was all over the news several monts ago. Fishermen had trouble dealing with them because their huge and kill the other fish in the net (so they degrade faster and are worth less on the market). I`m pretty shure that the jellyfish also made holes in fishing nets and that the fisher men had some kinds of countermeasures against them. Moreover, the jellyfish are edible, but its not very popular in Japan so they dont sell well. The real jellyfish eaters are the Chinese, usually these same jellyfish hit the Chinese coast instead of Japan, so its really popular there. (Note: I get all of this from the news, and my comprehention isnt stellar so I could be wrong about some of this.) Speculation: The change in jellyfish movements is due to a rather large portion of unusually hot water around the equator that was sending hurricanes at NO and typhoons at Japan.

the japanese should learn to eat jellyfish, so then they can finally lift the seasonal ban on Ahi.

Well its the first time its ever happend (at least to my knowledge). There was a TV program that had interesting things like jellyfish salad and jellyfish icecream, but I doubt it will catch on.

It’s too bad the Japanese Iron Chef isn’t on anymore, a jellyfish episode would have been awesome.
