Director Keith Schofield and the band Wintergreen have some fun at Atari’s expense with their clip for ’When I Wake Up‘.

Cool video.  I was shocked to find out that there’s actually some truth to this, but all the merchandise was crushed with a steamroller and buried under concrete.

I like the list of mistakes that lead to Atari’s demise in that Snopes article:

The company was purchased by a movie studio.

Top programmers left because they weren’t respected by the new management.

Atari sold it’s consoles cheaply counting on game sales to make up the margin.

The new generation of Atari console had a controller that was hard to use.

Atari made a crappy game from a movie which was supposed to sell based solely on the popularity of the movie.

    Sound familiar?

Dammit, you beat me to it.  I remember the landfill rumor being confirmed years ago in an interview with some of the top Atari execs.

I was set to post the Snopes link as a follow-up.
