Toyota Ads vs. Toyota Reality

Toyota ran this spot during the Super Bowl to show how tough it’s Tacoma truck is.  If you look carefully, you’ll see the normal ‘don’t try this/results simulated’ disclaimer.  How much do you think that spot cost them to make and air during the most expensive air time of the year?  Probably a hell of a lot more than the $1000 that guys from Top Gear spent on a 13 year old Toyota truck that they really did sink in the tide and then drive off in.

That’s one bad-ass truck.  If that’s not enough, they also ran it through a wood building, smashed it with a crane-swung wrecking ball, set it on fire, and blew it up with a 20 story building, all of which the truck survived.

Fuckin A right – i got me one of those. The toyota fuel injected 6 cylinder is one of the best engineered consumer class engines ever made.

my 2000 Tacoma X cab 2wd has over 105000 on it, and it’s been to the shop ONCE to get a new battery and 2 front brake pads.

it also needs 2 new back tires very soon, but that’s been the extent of its maintenance, aside from regular synthetic oil changes once every 10k miles.

no wonder Ford is closing half its goddamn plants in the US.

Yeah, my 93 4Runner was a tank, nothing would stop it.  Even saved my life when some drunken a-hole plowed into me on a rainy night in South Carolina.  His Chevy was demolished, and I went for a not-so-fun tumble down into a ditch, but I came out of it without a scratch, which amazed all the firefighters, cops, and paramedics.

Out here in the UAE our fleet of Hi-Lux and Land Cruisers have all done over 300,000 miles, much of which on gatch (dirt) roads and thay keep on going.

You can’t get a loan for a car here that is over 4 years old, unless it is a Toyota, Nissan, BMW or Mercedes, in which case you can buy a 6 year old model.
