The Raconteurs – Steady as She Goes

It must be nice to be Jack White.  Not only can you get Jim Jarmusch to direct your videos, you can make pop-genius Brendan Benson the second fiddle.  Oddly enough, Steady As She Goes sounds a lot more Brendan Benson-y than what rock’s favorite hobgoblin usually puts out.  Good stuff, nonetheless.

Keep these videos coming. I’ve been bookmarking the one’s I like for months. Transbuddha has become my at-work music source.

BTW love the dial-a-rating. It goes to 11!

Great Video, this is the only place I get to see them, Thanks!  Jim Jarmusch is my favorite director, watch Ghost Dog, Dead Man and Broken Flowers.

why does this illustrate how dead rock is?

  • .alphamonkey.

I fail to see how a Jack White sideproject can determine how dead rock is.  Maybe you’ll change your mind in 6 minutes or so.

  • fealty2dahriyah

the fact that he gets any attention for this song, is the rock death indicator. in my small mind, it’s crap. monotonous. I’ve heard it about a dozen times this week, and well I’m bored w/ it already. and I actually like the white stripes. I just can’t seem to fathom the entertainment in this. but the vid alone is amusing.

I hardly think this project is meant to cater to the same tastes as the White Stripes fan.  From what I’ve heard, it’s a hell of a lot more Brendan Benson influenced than Jack White influenced which, frankly, I quite enjoy.  There ain’t nothing wrong with Pop Rock.  Cheap Trick, Big Star, The Beatles, Nada Surf, Supergrass, etc. etc.

It’s a wide wide world o’ rock out there.

am I the last living soul to admit they can’t stand cheap trick?

and I must like some pop rock if avenged 7fold is getting some play by me.

up until this moment I had no clue who brendan was… still really don’t. but checked his page. it’s far more amusing than that song.

ok so maybe my point really should have been. so rock is really moving backwards. because this feels like nada surf or even maybe supergrass in the early/mid 90’s. and that’s fine I enjoyed them then.

why not drop some flyleaf clips… I’m a bit amused by them currently. plus the lead singer is a whole lot nicer to look at.

I got to second fealty2dahriyah’s view of cheaptrick. Frankly, I don’t want you to want me. The band’s title seems an apt description of their sound – a cheap trick. That aside, this is good music. I like White Stripes, I like this, what’s not to like? Back Street Boyz, now there’s something to get your righteous indignation into a lather!

Well in my personal taste, I clicked the back button before the song was over.  Sorry Monkey dood.

Then again if the lead singer doesn’t sound like they smoke a carton a day, I usually am not interested.  Thats for male and female.

One comment on the **Rock is dead**, **Rock will never die!!!111oneoneoneeleven**, or **Rock is undead!**(my personal fav).

Who cares!  It is only one form of expression.  Is jazz dead?  is classical?  It is just another form of music.  What you should be thinking is if rock is popular.  Well….80% of music stores are pop rock now so yes rock is indeed still popular.  Does it mean you should listen to it?  Nope.  Listen to what you like.  Trying to follow trends is like following a horse, eventually you will step in it and it will stick to your shoe…..wait that oesn’t make any sen…..

    SO anyway!!

    What was I saying?
