Now that the waaaay too long 4 year wait for a new Flaming Lips album has come to a close, we can all now rejoice with Wayne & Co’s joyous face-rocking power that fills every groove of At War with the Mystics.  Dig on this rather pointed clip for The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song, otherwise known as ‘With All Your Power’.

Hmmm…new Flaming Lips album, Tom DeLay dropping out of his Congressional race?  Maybe things are so bad after all…

4 years? didn’t something come out after yoshimi?

did you see the lips on austin city limits??? it’s entertaining.

sadly all the news of cd is making me want it less.  that is if it is really politically charged…

No, Yoshimi was the last full album.  They released a couple of rarities discs and archival stuff, but nada on the new album front.

At War With the Mystics is more topical than the few albums, but all of the FL stuff has been a direct reflection of what’s going through Wayne’s head.  I wouldn’t say this new one is preachy, or even terribly overt.

It’s an uneven album, with three distinct sections that don’t fully mesh together, but it’s still one very satisfying album.  The middle section is very much informed with a Pink Floyd kind of prog feel, while the closing tracks show the Lips remembering how much rockin’ they can do without all the electronics and orchestration.

I’ve still yet to hear that one album played on 4 players simutaneously…

    Flaming Lips freak here…

Has anyone gotten The Soft Bulletin 5.1 release?  It makes an amazing album even more amazing.

I have to wait until this weekend to get the new album and I’ve been on an abstinence when it comes to listening to the album…it’s torture!

I have the Yoshimi and Bulletin 5.1 releases.  Sheer audio bliss, they are.

What is everyone’s favorite lips album? I’d say Clouds Taste Metallic.

Obviously The Soft Bulletin with Clouds or Yoshimi or Transmissions or Priest Driven Ambulance being my 2nd…

The Soft Bulletin by a wiiiiide margin.  Not only is it the best Lips album, it’s one of the best albums of the last 30 years.

Yoshimi gets my #2 spot, followed by Clouds, and then Transmissions.

Sure it’s the “best” if you want to get all technical.
