Joanna Newsom has a voice that will either drive you insane or really endear you to her, but this classical harpist’s fusion of avant garde Appalachian folk is pretty damn distinct.  I kind of go either way on her voice, but this video for Peach, Plum, Pear (from the 2004 album The Milk-Eyed Mender) just really knocks me out.

I’m not sold on her vocal style, that’s for sure.  I just really dug the video.  I’m a sucker for old Super 8 footage.

Her bridges and balloons video is pretty cool too. I never thought a chalk board would be so entertaining.

She’s a little less grating on that too…

so i heard her for the first time like last week and i might have been high so i had one of those moments where i was like “does this sound really bizarre to me because it IS bizarre… or because I’m high.”

I’m relieved to know that she does in fact have a very weird voice.
