Antonion Campos got some really open and honest footage of kids talking about their parents for his short, ’What Would You Say…To Your Parents?‘ The audio quality is frustrating, as is the (obviously necessary) obscuring of the subjects’ faces, but overall a very powerful and emotional look at how kids see their parents.  Some NSFW language.

I find it depressing that only one felt apologetic to his parents.  Yes, there are some individuals who don’t deserve to have children, but still…I have a feeling parenting is much more difficult and complicated than people give it credit for.  Some of these kids struck me as the type who would live their parent’s home, eat their parent’s food, then get on their parent’s Internet connection to complain on their LiveJournal about how they don’t get enough attention.  I found it especially appalling that one of the interviewees went so far as to accuse his father as having “no idea what it’s like to be a kid.” Grown-ups are people too…they need support, and nowadays the number of children who are willing to provide it is becoming exceedingly few, because they’re too wrapped up in their own angst.

Well, I gathered that all the subjects were teenagers. That’s not an age that lends itself to honest exploration of other peoples perspectives.

It’s one of my problems, I get so irritated with my mom yet at the same time I know she’s working really hard to suppor this family. I can never feel like I have the right to complain.

Sorry, couldn’t watch the whole clip.  I have a low tolerance for whining.
