As kind of a morning ‘make-up’ post for our long weekend, here’s the incomparable Johnny Cash singing ’City of New Orleans‘, a song very near and dear to my heart.  I’ve yet to hear a bad version of this Arlo Guthrie tune, but I have to admit my dad’s version is my favorite.

Actually, this song was written by Steve Goodman.  Although, Arlo’s cover is awesome too.

I know it’s Goodman, but there are like 6 people who know who he is. Guthrie’s is arguably the most well known so I went with that.

Yeah, that’s fair.  Steve Goodman does happen to be the man though.

Yah, he was great.  What happened to writers like that, anyway?  Why don’t we have anyone on par with Goodman or a young Randy Newman anymore?  There’s no biting socio/political satire music being written nowadays that’s worth a damn.
