Cee-Lo may be best known for having been one fourth of the Goodie Mob, or more recently as one half of the ridiculously awesome Gnarls Barkley, but it’s worth noting that his two solo albums are the perfect embodiment of the New Soul sound.  Racheting up the awesome factor is Cee-Lo’s Al Green by way of George Clinton aesthetic, as well as his very very capable high soaring vocals.  Take a step back to 2002 to watch the psychedelic freakout clip for his song ’Closet Freak‘ off his solo debut, Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections.

Soul ain’t dead, nosiree.

Seconded.  “Cee-lo Green is the Soul Machine” is the kind of rare thing you get from a ruined genre that is… good.  In other words, it makes you cry when you realize how much better a genre as a whole could be.

Worth mentioning (again, I think) that Cee-Lo makes the Dungeon Family album worth listning to over and over.  It even makes me forgive him for writing that “Dont’cha” song for the Pussy Cat Dolls.  Not forget, mind you, but forgive.
