Death Cab for Cutie – I Will Follow You Into the Dark ver. 2

While thinking about .alphamonkey.’s loveless relationship concerning DCFC, it inspired me to dig up and post this music video ”I Will Follow You Into the Dark“. It has been described as Kafkaesque, and was directed by Jamie Thraves who did the award winning video for Radiohead’s Just .

The first version (which .alphamonkey posted here in Feburary) was directed by Monkmus who is responsible for many of the Sony PSP commercials, and was part of the Directions anthology, which tasked a different director to create a short film for each of the 12 songs from the band’s album “Plans” . Monkmus was kind enough to also do a commentary for his video.

Personally I enjoy Monkmus’s version much more than this second version, since it’s simplistic style captures the mood of the song better in my opinion.

I like it, but I am not sure why.  I can tell he is a really good musician, but something has definately changed since the The Postal Service days.

Perhaps more sardonic?  Anyway, I liked it and will give DCFC more attention.

I think Monkmus’s take is much more evocative of the song itself, and very much more in spirit of being a love song of sorts.  Thraves version just plays like an unrelated short film, in which the guy (Gibbard) just happens to be singing the song.

I have to agree with AM, I prefer the first version.  I do like this song, but I’m still not completely sold on this band.

Well glad this got posted, saddly AM kinda messed up what I meant at the end while editing it (NP easy thing to do when you have to work and run a kick arse site). I personaly felt that the Monkmu’s version was > than this newer one. It truly did invoke the emotional meaning of the song while the second only deals with the fear of the unknown. (which has nothing to do with the song IMHO).

The placement of the sentence confused me enough that I couldn’t quite determine your meaning. I should have verified it before posting.  My apologies.
