On occasion I find myself regretting not watching MTV, but thankfully I realize that 99% of the programming showcases the worst aspects of American culture.  Of course, sometimes that 1% is pretty damn cool, like this Gnarls Barkley performance at the Video Music Awards

I wouldn’t mind being a Gnarls Barkley kind of crazy.

  • sparky

George Lucas is going to have their asses for this.

By the way, where in the hell is Han Solo?

  • daemoneyes

He’s frozen in carbonite, silly.  Props to anyone who can play the drums in a full wookie costume, though.

  • Your Good Twin

I’m not sure he was playing… The movements of some of those people didn’t seem to match up to me, unless I’m just going blind.

  • fealty2dahriyah

umm it’s mtv is anything ever live?

All of Gnarls Barkley’s performances are themed.  I’m willing to bet they’re playing, but knowing MTV they probably had to have a backing track.

OMG I had heard about this.  THanks for posting it!

  • MonkeeDoo

Hooray for Cee-Lo for keeping it subdued and not trying to outstage either the music (wonderful) or the set (lawsuit-a-licious).

That was cooler than Episodes I, II, and III combined.  I’m gonna watch again, then put on the Dungeon Family album and my Boba Fett Underoos.

was the orchestra in costume? I dunno, I’m not a star wars guy

  • .alphamonkey.

They were dressed as Imperial officers.

  • Boss Robot

    ahh thank you

I also give thanks for being quite frank

Yes yes, it’s strange but I am embarassed at my lack of star wars knowledge

Isn’t the bass player a litle short for a Stormtrooper?

  • labrazio

That’s why he had to abandon his Stormtrooper career and became a bass player.

  • Alan

    Sense all now it makes.

  • fealty2dahriyah

this and many other acts has ushered in a thought of hitting lollapalooza this year

  • Azbat7

Every time I see this guy perform, he always impresses

  • Alan

Is it just me or does it seem perfectly normal for Star Wars characters to be performing catchy pop songs?

  • Azbat7

Since Geroge Lucas has has put the star wars logo on any and every single item that can sell, it seems perfectly normal to me as well

  • Alan

Cynical, but I make you right.
