Yes, yes, we’ve done a lot of videos today, but I’m feeling musical. And besides, it’s not like you were going to stumble across some Danish singer’s song on the radio today, now were you? But let’s move a little more to the Northeast and spend some time with one of my personal favorite artists, Sweden’s Nicolai Dunger.
I stumbled upon his work a few years back when I was working the music department of a bookstore, and his American debut ‘Soul Rush’ came in with the new releases. One listen and I was good and truly hooked. (So much so that the song ‘I’d Rather Die’ was my wife and I’s wedding song). Soul Rush sounded like an Astral Weeks period Van Morrison (a fact helped by Dunger’s enlisting of a jazz trio to play county tinged rock music, just like Van did), and I’ve been on his bandwagon ever since. I’m totally sad I didn’t go to SXSW this year, as the reviews he received for his solo performances have been universally adoring.
Take a gander at his video for Hunger off his latest English language release, “Here’s My Song You Can Have It…I Don’t Want It Anymore/Yours 4-Ever “
And dammit, do yourself a favor and get a couple of his albums.
