UK Phil Spector maniacs, The Pipettes looked to Russ Meyer’s explotation classic, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls for the inspiration of their clip ’Pull Shapes‘.  I’m not sold on the song, (nor is their ‘about’ section from their website winning me over), but I’ll admit I like the video.

If you’d like a little reference, here’s the scene from Beyond the Valley of the Dolls that’s getting all homaged.

How do you get the job ‘Teen Tycoon of Rock’, anyway?  I totally want that gig.

Yeah, a bit too shoo-wop for my tastes, but that’s a cool video.

In the words of the great Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar, “Schwing!” I am, of course, commenting on their sexy…song..composition.

A Wayne’s World reference?  That’s so charmingly archaic.
