To wrap up our little Fan Film Festival I thought I’d dig back into the past and haul out what I still think is the best fan film ever made, Troops.  Directed by Kevin Rubio and made with a cast and crew made up of fans and industry types, this 10 minute parody of Cops debuted on the Internet in 1997 to great nerdy acclaim and the tacit approval of the Lucas.  An lo, the floodgates of fan film were opened, never to be shut again.

Oddly enough, much of the crew went on to create a semi-sequel of sorts that’s currently airing as a multi part series called I.M.P.S. – The Relentless, which drops the jokey parody aspect for a more traditional fan film feel.  Though in it’s defense, it is narrated by Peter Cullen, otherwise known as the voice of Optimus Prime.

So there you have it, true believers; a look at fan films both good and bad.  Honestly, I could have posted endlessly on this subject, but my feeble monkey brain can only take so much punishment.  Mayhap we’ll return to this subject in the near future.

Oh, man.  I am such a nerd.

I’ll see you all on Monday.

I still love the fact that the stolen droid they recover is Tom Servo from MST3K.

I like the Minnesota accent of the first Trooper.

Maybe it’s because they’re so similar, but I would have guessed Canadian accent. I can see Minnesota now though. Good film.

I actually thought it was Wisconsin.  But they’re all pretty close.
