Redd Kross – Jimmy’s Fantasy

Transbuddha reader Corey pointed out to me that I have committed a serious and glaring omission in my continuing video homage to the beauty of Power Pop.  You see, I haven’t run any Redd Kross videos.  The genesis of what would become Redd Kross was formed in 1978 by brothers Steve and Jeff McDonald, who grew up in the same L.A. suburb that gave us the Beach Boys.

Over the next 17 years, the McDonald brothers (along with an ever rotating cast of musicians) put out 5 albums that spawned from reckless pop culture obsessed punk to stunningly sincere and irony free power pop to all points in between.  They never garnered much acclaim outside of the critical circle, but damn did they put out some great work.

This clip for Jimmy’s Fantasy is from the 1993 album ‘Phaseshifter’, and stars a rather young looking (and pre Kevin Smith years) Jason Lee.  I’ll see if I can round up some decent quality clips from the album prior (and my favorite), Third Eye.
