Google unveiled it’s new online word processor last week with rather little fanfare, but if Writely takes off, it may well be the opening salvo in the war with Mircosoft over online vs. offline applications.

I’m old and curmudgeonly enough to prefer my essential applications to be local (along with my files), but I can see the appeal and convenience an online application poses.

So I ask you, my dear anonymous Internet friends, how likely are you to use applications that are wholly online?

As good an idea as this is, I don’t see myself relying on something so completely intangible just yet…

I use my browser applications almost strictly online.

I was waiting for that comment, but as a point of fact, the broswer application itself sits on your harddrive.
