Another Strange Pairing

I remember the heady days of 1989, when somehow the thought of Prince doing the Batman soundtrack made perfect sense.  Hell, I even remember the crowd going nuts when Prince’s name came up during the opening credits of the packed to the gills sneak preview I attended at the sadly departed Glenwood Theater in Kansas City.  Of course, then most of us went out and bought the soundtrack only to collectively sigh ‘what the hell’?  But the music was nothing compared to the videos Prince came up with for the tracks.  Dig on Batdance, in which Prince battle dances against, well, Prince in a scene straight out of some kind of competetive dance contest on ecstasy and PCP.

What the hell? Is this real?

Ah, you must have missed the saturation bombing of Batman marketing and tie-ins in the summer of 1989.  I assure you, it’s totally real.

Lucky you. There are those of those who can never forget, no matter how many drugs we do…
