Miles Davis – So What?

If you lost your entire music collection, and had to start over from scratch, what would be the one album you would get first?

This happened to a friend of mine, and he bought a “Mahavishnu Orchestra” cut, which turned me on to them.

You’d be surprised how much you learn about music and people when you ask this question.

My answer is definitely Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue. This album features Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderly, John Coletrane among others at their best. Dig on ”So What?“ from 1959.

Good choice for first replacement but a listen to “Sketches In Spain” might change some peoples minds regarding 1st Choice.  There is a boxed set with these two albumns available.

Amen.  I like Sketches in Spain too, but for completely different reasons (as it is a completely different album).  The Birth of The Cool is great Miles Davis too.  But I agree…if I had to have one, it would be Kind of Blue.

I’m trying to come up with my own album to add, but after hearing Miles Davis, it’s really hard to think of anything that compares.

I dunno.. Having to pick just one Miles Davis LP would be tough.  I’d probably go with Birth of Cool or Bitches Brew.

Though, as to the first album I’d replace in the case of a total media loss?  T. Rex’s Electric Warrior would #1, followed by Abby Road and Let it Bleed.

After the One-willie, dylan, and so one where would you put Talking Heads?
