Wii Does Flash!?

Gamespot has a great rundown on some of the functionality of the upcoming Nintendo Wii (Multilingual folk can get it straight from the official Japanese site), and while most of the info is either confirmation or elaboration on the functionality that’s already been hinted at, what really caught my eye is that Wii’s browser (which will be a port of Opera) will support Adobe Flash.

While that might not seem like such a big deal, it does fall in line with Nintendo’s stated goal of demolishing the wall between the gamer and non-gamer experience.  So in addition to the marquee titles that’ve already been announced (and the hints that users will be able to tap into the entire Nintendo game archive online), Flash games like the one’s we showcase here will be playable via the Wii, which illustrates my point yesterday about the continuing convergence of our multimedia technologies.

I don’t know about you, but I’m waaaaay excited for this one.

I’ve been going fanboy over the wii footage from the recent show. I just wanna get my hands on one. I’ve been gaming all of my life (well, since I remember, anyway), and I’ve always been Nintendo all the way (except for when I traded my N64 for a playstation, but that was just a smart move), though Sony recently pulled me in with the PS2, and if it weren’t so expensive, the PS3. I remember the long arguments my friend and I had during the 16-bit Genesis vs SNES days, and I can’t wait to see how this generation fares. I surely hope that ‘more innovation’ ends out ahead of ‘more power’. And no, Sony, your theft of the motion sensing controller doesn’t count as innovation. Here’s hoping the Wii’s online set-up isn’t anything like the DS’s Friend Code system.

I have been a loyal Playstation owner since the first console came out.  I bought a PSOne and loved it (still do!).  PS2 is STILL my favorite console still out there….

…but Sony, you really screwed the pooch on pricing the PS3.  No matter how tough it is, ain’t no teenager/college student gonna be able to afford that thing.

So my plan is this glorious course of action laid out by someone much smarter then myself.  Bail on Sony, and buy both an XBox 360 AND a Wii, plus one game, all for the same price as the PS3.

I am a Wii fanboi, I admit it. Though, only because I want nothing more than to see Sony fail. It’s Sony’s arrogance that makes me mad. Even more then that, its their fanbois that are worse.

I’ve been a fan of Sony for a while, but the PS3 makes me want to slit my wrists. I’ve high hopes for the Wii, but its going to be difficult with an experimental controller. I applaude Nintendo for at least trying to improve the gaming experiance. The only thing Sony and Microsoft offer is better graphics, which we all know it takes more than just graphics to make a good game.
