Director Floria Sigismondi directed this spot for the now-defunct Canadian retailer Eatons. I can’t pinpoint a time line on this, but the chain went bust just shy of the turn of the century (how weird is that phrase to say?). In a day filled with advert posts, I thought it fitting, and it’s a phenomenal piece of work. The style, the shots, the color, and composition are nearly spot on for the time period it’s supposed to evoke. It’s not until the musical number that the age of the clip is really given away (as it’s at that point that the effects really make themselves known).
Anyway, regardless of what happened to the client, this (obviously high-dollar) clip should serve as a great example on how to make a really exceptional commercial.
