Jinniku No Umarekawar

As we move closer and closer to what’s probably my all time favorite holiday (okay, after Auburn Day), I think I’ll try to scrounge up some links and media that best suits the day.  For all the cutesy that gets bandied around, Halloween remains close to my heart for the unbridled terror we’re encouraged to instill in one another.  In this antiseptic and airbrushed world, is there any horror more effective than body horror?  David Cronenberg (The Fly, Naked Lunch, eXistenZ, History of Violence) might be the best example of a mainstream director whose work is based on the deep seated fear of our flesh gone wrong, but it’s a genre that’s existed for a long, long time in our collective imagination.

For example, check out director and VFX guy Alessandro Pacciani’s almost gut-wrenching short, Jinniku No Umarekawar.  It’s creepy, it’s disturbing, and it’ll turn you off of hugs for a while.  (It’s Safe For Work, but you might get some really strange looks and a visit from HR)
