This Irn Bru commercial takes a lovely swipe at The Snowman, lifting both the animation and musical style, but with a decidedly less feel good (though much funnier) result.  Robin Shaw of Sherbert handled the directing.

I know there has to be at least a couple Scottish Transbuddha readers, so I ask: What the hell is Irn Bru?  I googled it, but the website scared me a little.

Irn Bru is a fizzy drink that is so full of sugar and colour I can’t believe it is legal to sell it.

It’s massive glucose content makes it popular with Scottish people as it is said to have magical restorative powers after a heavy night on the “pop” or “sauce”.

Other Scottish delights are “Mad Dog” an alcoholic beverage made by monks and deep-fried chocolate bars, pizzas and pies. Really. Such is the propensity for deep frying things north of the border that a bag of chips (french fries in the US) is known as a “Scottish Salad”

PS – one of the tag lines from Irn Bru (Iron Brew) from my childhood, some 25 years ago was “Made in Scotland – from Girders”.

    That’s certainly encouraging.

Irn Bru is, as mentioned a fizzy drink that has always had an ‘alternative’ take on Advertising, YouTube has a few older Irn Bru adverts and are always worth a watch for nostalgic value.

FYI there are now 3 types of Irn Bru:

    Normal (Full Fat)

32 (Irn Bru’s alternative to Red Bull)

Hard to describe its taste but it is a traditional hangover cure and can also be added to Whisky although this may land you in trouble in some places!
