The Genius of Yacht Rock

I realized that I’ve done, you my dear internet friends, a terrible, terrible disservice.  You see, I’ve never shared with you the sublime and terrible genius of Yacht Rock, one of the best shows in Channel 101’s storied history.

Taking a loving swipe at such soft rock icons as Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Toto, and Christopher Cross, creators J.D. Ryznar and Hunter Stair give us a hilariously bizarre look into the secret world of soft rock songwriting and the inner turmoil it just barely survived.  It’s goofy, fairly profane, and chock full of 70’s AOR chestnuts, and I can’t recommend it enough.  Maybe it’s the music nerd in me, but there’s just a lot to love in these 10 episodes. So bust out the loose fitting khakis, pop open the white zin, and set sail on the smooth seas with Yacht Rock: The Complete Series

God yes.  God damn yes.  I’ve been a long time purveyor of Channel 101 and my friend pointed the first couple episodes out to me last year.  We have watched them so much.  Suffice to say, something like 20 quotes from that series are just a part of our vocabulary now.

I can’t count the number of times one of us has gone “hey guys hey..” and then someone else kicks and goes “fuck you!”

Really people, listen to the monkey.  I dare say that next to Twigger’s Holiday or Sockbaby, you will not watch a better show on Channel 101.
