U2 – Window in the Skies

I’m normally very, very wary of videos that appropriate footage of celebrities, but U2’s clip for Window in the Skies feels much more like a celebration of the icons they show, rather than just crass nostalgia mining.  The synch job matching up the mouths to the lyrics is pretty effin’ sweet (even if it’s apparent it was done via CGI in some spots), and it’s just great to see some of this kind of footage.

    Wow! A U2 video that:

    A. I think is pretty nifty

    and

    B. Doesn’t feature a scene where Bono tries to make out with the camera.

Thumbs up! Even though their own music has recently sucked, at least they’ve kept their taste.

Bonus points to anyone who can tell me which two second clip was the very best (not really, but I won’t let myself say it isn’t)

What a grand celebration of music.  I am completely enamored.

Too bad it’s U2, and not a real band with some integtrity

Don’t make me explain the whole ‘Without Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby we don’t get modern music as we know it, including Radiohead, etc.’ argument again.

U2 at their most lackluster is better than a fair number of bands at their best.

“U2 at their most lackluster is better than a fair number of bands at their best.”

    And that’s a challenge how?

Oh, are you a ‘everything sucks’ camper?

Beatles images not available? Big rushes nonetheless.

That was fun!!  Let’s do it again!

I could easily do without U2’s christianist business… and without Bono’s hysteric singing style. More than a few of these bands and performers were way out of U2’s league, in terms of their importance in the history of the music. U2 are a very conservative band.

But cool video.  Lose the Sinatra.  Best shoes/feet: David Byrne and his beat box and JAMES BROWN. RIP Godfather.

    “Lose the Sinatra” Blasphemy!

Sure, he was a bit of an alcholic (who wasn’t back then?) , a misogynist (ditto), sometimes racist, and maybe he had ties to the mafia. But the man could sing. Listen to some of the live shows recorded at the Sands in the 60s, as a lounge singer, he had no equal.

    Kids these days.
