Now here’s a documentary that kids won’t fall asleep watching! Seriously though, director Steve Anderson‘s look into the “dirtiest” word ever is both informative and entertaining. The film is a combination of short interviews from writers, directors, politicians, porn stars, scholars and linguists mixed with humorous animation, and clips from film and television. From peering into the orgins to discussing the verbiage and functional uses of the word the film is, I must say, a fucking good time.
FUCK: 3 & ½ Stars (out of 5)
It won’t have you laughing as hard 2005’s The Aristocrats (read Scarlet’s review or check out my review), but it does make for a quite enjoyable 90 minutes of expletive exploring fun with the help of various celebrities including Bill Maher, Kevin Smith, Drew Carey, Billy Connolly, Janeane Garofalo, and clips of masters of “naughty” language including George Carlin, Eddie Murphy, and Lenny Bruce.
Add in politicians like Alan Keyes, porn stars like Tera Patrick, conservatives like Pat Boone, and the great Hunter S. Thompson (to whom the film is dedicated) and you’ve got something to talk about.
The DVD contains the theatrical trailer, a commentary track from director Steve Anderson, and extended interviews of those used in the film and was released yesterday from THINKFilms for list price of $19.98.
