I mentioned this in passing last week, but I’ve stumbled across a bunch more stuff concerning Pizza Hut’s Cheesy Hunt SMS game in the last couple of days. Apparently Pizza Hut is giving away $30,000 dollars (and a host of other prizes) to the winner of their Cheesy Hunt game, which you play by texting hidden codes to their SMS number (843488). Now that wouldn’t be interesting in and of itself, except for the fact that Pizza Hut isn’t really promoting this at all. I’ve seen the Cheesy Bites commercials that contain the codes (so far ‘Hunt’ and ‘Find’ are codes to send in, but there’s no mention of the contest in the spots), but I’m now seeing all these sites that are giving away the codes. Hell, I’m even seeing ‘homemade’ games that are based around the campaign giving away the codes. Like this one, for instance.
Which leads me to wonder: Why didn’t Pizza Hut promote this game? Were it not for the fact that I read a number of ad and marketing sites, I’d have never known there was such a thing as a Cheesy Hunt. That leads me to think that there can’t be that many people who have entered, which leads me to think the odds of winning 30K just for entering a couple of SMS codes are pretty damn good. Of course, I’ve probably blown that chance by mentioning it to the 50 odd thousand people who visit Transbuddha everyday, but hey, that’s what I’m here for.
