SMS, Super Bowl Sunday, and the ever increasing mediocrity of Madison Avenue

I spent Super Bowl Sunday (not to mention most of Monday) in a pain and fever induced haze (yea for crappy teeth!), so not only did I not see Manning finally get that ring, I was a total lazy man and caught all the commercials post game on YouTube.  I think most everyone agrees that the ads were uniformly sub-par this year, and I’m certainly no exception.  The only clip I actually laughed at was the Snickers Kiss spot, though I will admit I thought the Garmin ad was cheesy fun.  Going forward, I think Budweiser (horse filtered!) should be banned from running more than two commercials.

Oddly enough, a number of high profile companies opted out of the Super Bowl madness this year. Proctor & Gamble stayed out completely, and Pizza Hut’s Cheesy Bites ad (which actually had a clever gimmick of having viewers look for hidden codes to send in via SMS) ran prior to the coin-toss, eliminating it from true ‘Super Bowl Ad’ status.

However, I am most sad that I missed Prince kicking the live-show ass that he’s known for.  Holy crap, but he’s just awesome to watch live.  Of course, I’d have been much happier had he indulged in his mischievously streak and snuck in ‘Pussy Control’ or ‘Sexy Motherfucker’, but I bet CBS had sharpshooters in the lights ready to go in case of said deviation from script.

Hehe, I commented to coworkers that he should have busted out “Pussy Control”.  Maybe that’s not something I should mention to over 30 women who don’t know that song….
