McDonald’s isn’t Lovin’ the McJob

McDonald’s is trying to have the term ’McJob‘ stricken from the dictionary claiming the term is derisive and offensive to actual McDonald’s employees, according to this Spiegel Online article.  McJob has been an accepted use word since 2001, 15 years after being introduced to the popular lexicon via a Washington Post article.

    I’m not sure exactly where the word came from originally, but I’m surprised that no one is crediting Douglas Coupland with popularizing it via his novel Generation X. Anyhow, good luck to McDonald’s and their attempts to get the horse back in the barn. While we’re at it, I’d like Webster’s and the OED to withdraw the definitions of my name as a) a toilet and b) a prostitute’s client.
