Not two minutes into watching the surprisingly excellent Stranger Than Fiction (see Alan’s review), I turned to the missus and said, “Those graphics have to be MK12“. Lo and behold, the credits proved me right. Alright, I’ll confess that I’m the nerd that can name the fonts used on billboard ads, but it’s still saying something that I could so readily identify which graphics house did the graphics work on a film that easily. Of course, that ease has a lot more to do with MK12’s signature style than any particular acumen on my part, but it still gave me a little nerdgasm inside.
If you haven’t seen any of the Kansas City based MK12’s work, you’re missing out on some jawdroppingly cool graphics and fx work. We ran their clip for Guided By Voice’s ’Back to the Lake‘, but you should really give their showreel a looky-loo.
And how weird is it that something like graphics work and a featurette that showed a building I used to drive past everyday can make a monkey a little homesick?
