As you probably know, today marks the 30th anniversary of Star Wars (and if you didn’t?  Well, you need to visit RazorFine review more often), and there’s quite the rumor going about that George Lucas will be announcing a new Star Wars film today.

Oh, you read that right.  The possibility of a new Star Wars film is a weird one to consider.  To be honest, I’d be pretty excited about that were there assurances that Lucas would neither write the final screenplay nor direct it, but at this point it’s still very much a fan boy rumor.  Personally I’d lean toward a new SW film being a non-starter, but who knows?  There is the TV show planned for 2008, and maybe Lucas has decided he needs to own all of California, and not just the top half.

I don’t see this happening, and don’t have an interest in any more prequel films.  But there’s actually quite a large amount of good material to draw on from the many, many novels to base parts 7,8, and 9 if it would ever happen.  I’d be all for Lucas to brainstorm and outline the basics, give it as a project to some of the best sci-fi writers out there, and then let his old friend Steven Speilberg direct.  Then we’d get all nine parts and a more satisfying ending to the series.

Sadly, the universe doesn’t work that way.  Zack Snyder has begun casting Watchmen. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Don’t get me started about Watchmen.  They will get my 30 dollars (10 for the movie, and 20 for the DVD), but I will not like it.

Alan Moore hates all the movies made of his work.  I have to agree with him.  They all seemed to just miss the point of his writing.
