Robbie Williams – The 80’s

I’ll admit it: I’ve got a soft spot for Robbie Williams (Swing While You’re Winning is a Casa del Mono favorite), though I was a bit skeptical about the idea of Williams (ahem) rapping.  However, his low-key and laid back delivery really sells a song that might otherwise degenerate into a personal 80’s-centric ‘We Didn’t Start the Fire’.

That said the video for ’The 80’s‘ is really astounding with a great faux one-take format and a gangly teen stand-in for Williams.  A wee bit racy at points, but it is Robbie Williams.

At first glance I read “Robin Williams.”

The article made no sense until I started it over from the beginning.

This song is much better than it would sound if you tried to tell someone about it. “Yeah, so it’s Robbie Williams sort of rapping using lots of 80’s song titles and well-known lines.” Sounds like a horrible idea that turned out very entertaining.

  • Look Madge! I soaked in it!

Once again I’ve got to give the ‘Buddha credit for continually exposing me to new, interesting, music videos. I gather that a good number of the contributors are Brits. As a Yank, I can’t thank you enough for exposing me to stuff you just can’t get on American media.

P.S. I contend that every form of music known to made experienced a renaissance in the 80’s (or, for that matter, was born in the 80’s).
