Why? Oh dear lord, why?

I’m sure we all remember the Super Bowl Shuffle.  But what about the Kurtis Blow-a-riffic ‘Basketball’ from 1984? For some reason, the bizarre need for sports stars to be involved in music continues to this day (though to be fair: Blow’s love of basketball is well-known, and the song was kind of a thank-you for the exposure he’d received by playing shows after NBA games).

So far we have shufflin’ Bear, Shaq rap, rappin’ wrasslers, but no one at any point ever stops the process and says “Wait, you’re completely insane!” You’d think we’d have learned our lesson by now, thanks to the worst sports/music mix of all time:  Carl Lewis’s ‘Break it Up’.

Here’s a weird fact: Lewis’s marketability was hurt by rumors of his supposed homosexuality.  I can’t imagine why, after this video.  Truth be told though, Lewis has certainly gone to great lengths to toughen up his image. (NSFW audio)

Thanks to Shadow for the Basketball find, and The Good Reverend for the original Carl Lewis post, from October of 04
