Hacking Starbucks

starbucks.jpgSlate has an interesting article discussing the various means of hacking Starbucks (aka getting your custom drink on the cheap), as detailed by the various contributors to Starbucks Gossip.

It’s certainly an interesting way of going about things (though I’ll confess I’d never heard the term ‘ghetto latte’ in all my time on the other side of a espresso machine), but mostly I like the article for it’s discussion of how Starbucks has become a sort of short hand target for easy consumerism for haters and the net-savvy crowd. (As an aside, I find it interesting that so many indie coffee die-hards rail against Starbucks while ignoring the fact that the whole reason we’ve had a rise in the independent coffee business as a whole is due to Starbucks singlehandedly opening up the market beyond the traditional cafe-hipsters).
